Information on COVID-19

COVID-19 UPDATE: Effective November 23, 2020:

With the weather quickly turning we have developed a plan for indoor visitation and just today received notice that it has been approved by the state. Below are the guidelines that will be followed.

Please call the activities department at 605-326-3014 to schedule an indoor visit, please leave a message and we will return your phone call. Spots are limited and are first come first serve.

Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home
10/23/2020
Core Principles for Visitation:
- Screening
- Hand Hygiene
- Face Covering
- Social Distancing
- Frequent Cleaning and Disinfecting

Situation: Determining the ability for indoor resident visitation when and if there is new onset of COVID-19 cases in the facility is currently conducting outbreak testing AND/OR the COVID positivity rate for Turner County exceeds the threshold for indoor visitation.

Background: Residents at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home have had only a brief period of “in person” outdoor visitation except for compassionate care circumstances since 9/3/2020 because of the outbreak status in our facility.
Temperatures are dropping as winter approaches prohibiting outdoor visits in the nursing home outdoor patio.

Assessment: The following guidelines must be adhered to for resident visitation:

  • A resident may receive one visit per day

  • Visitation will be by appointment only

  • Visitors will be screened for COVID questions (including temperature) at the Pioneer Memorial main entrance

  • Visitor screening information will be documented

  • Visitors will perform hand hygiene using alcohol based hand sanitizer prior to entering the visitation area and before exiting the facility

  • Visitors will then be escorted directly to the visitation area in the Arboretum adjacent to the Lobby

  • Visitors will wear masks at all times during visits - NO EXCEPTIONS

  • Residents will be masked for the visit unless diagnosis prohibits

  • Visits will be conducted using social distancing or wall-like Plexiglas barriers exceeding six feet in size

  • Staff will monitor spacing and masking but will remain appropriate distance from visitors to ensure privacy

  • Visits can last up to 30 minutes

  • Surfaces in the visitation area will be cleaned with appropriate sanitizing product at the beginning of each visitation day, after each visit, and at the end of each visitation day

  • Activities, Social Services, and Nursing staff will be scheduled to screen visitors, facilitate visits and sanitize surfaces between visits

  • Given the COVID status in the facility and community, indoor visitation may be suspended at facility discreation IE: staffing needs

Recommendation:

We will utilize the Arboretum/Resident day room for resident visitation. Both rooms have two separate entrances, one public entrance from the Lobby, and another entrance from the nursing home for residents to enter and exit without having to enter a public space.

  • Only two visitors may visit a resident at a time.
  • No visitors may wait inside the facility for a visit.
  • Appointments will be scheduled and staggered to allow for adequate time between visits and to allow for proper disinfection.
  • All surfaces will be cleaned with appropriate sanitizing product at the beginning of each visitation day, after each visit, and at the end of each visitation day.
