Meet our Physical Therapists:

Patti Timmermans

Patti Timmermans, DPT

Patti graduated from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, and obtained her Doctorate of Physical Therapy Degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Amanda Marts

Amanda Marts, PT, MSPT

Amanda graduated from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, with a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Therapy and then obtained her Master's Degree in Exercise Science and a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy at USD in 2002. She has specialized training in Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) and was certified in the LSVT BIG program in 2016 to work with Parkinson's patients.

Kristeen Kingsbury

Kristeen Kingsbury, DPT

Kristeen graduated from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology in 2007 and obtained her Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy at USD. Kristeen is the main physical therapist providing services at our Parker Outpatient Therapy Services location in the Parker Medical Clinic and she also provides PT services in Viborg.

Occupational Therapy

Our Occupational Therapists, Lisa Wixon and Abby Volden, help people improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments. They help clients not only to improve their basic motor functions and reasoning abilities, but also to compensate for permanent loss of function. Their goal is to help clients lead independent, productive, and satisfying lives.

Pioneer Memorial Hospital & Health Services occupational therapists provide treatments for many conditions including:

  • Wrist/Hand/Arm Fractures

  • Tendonitis of the Elbow/Wrist/Hand

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

  • Upper Extremity Pain

  • Upper Extremity Weakness

  • Arthritis

  • Splint Fabrication for Upper Extremity

Occupational therapists also provide assistance with:

Meet our Occupational Therapist:

Abby Volden

Abby Volden, OTR/L

Abby graduated from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, December 2013, with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Master's of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy. Abby has worked at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls in the acute care setting since December 2013 and joined Pioneer Memorial's Therapy Dept. in January 2021. She provides OT services at PMH&HS, and our Parker Outpatient Therapy Services location in the Parker Medical Clinic.

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy includes evaluation and treatment of various communication and/or swallowing disorders. Some causes of speech and language disorders are related to hearing loss, stroke, neuromuscular disorders, head injury, viral diseases, Parkinson's Disease, etc.

Meet our Speech Therapist:

Dana Miller

Dana Miller, MA, CCC-SLP

Dana graduated in 1988 from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Disorders, and then obtained her Master's Degree in Pathology at USD in 1989. Dana began working for Pioneer Memorial Hospital & Health Services in June 2020. She is also presently a Speech Language Pathologist at the V.A. Medical Center in Sioux Falls, where she has been since 1993.

  • Needing voice therapy

  • Having problems with swallowing

  • With memory problems

  • With cognitive problems (word finding, problem solving, etc)

  • With a speech disorder (apraxia or dysarthria)

  • With a language disorder

Wellness Programs

Pioneer Memorial Hospital & Health Services Therapy Department manages two Wellness Programs:

  • Open Wellness
  • Rehab Wellness

The Open Wellness program utilizes exercise equipment in our Holiday Room located in the lower level of the facility. It is an independent program open to the community. Rehab Wellness is for individuals 55 years or over and is supervised by the therapy staff.
