Diabetic Education

Millions of people lead healthy lives while managing diabetes. Pioneer Memorial Hospital & Health Services offers diabetic education to help you understand diabetes, to help you adjust your lifestyle and to give you the tools you need to control your diabetes.

Education and proper care can help people with diabetes live long and healthy lives and diabetes self-management education can teach people with diabetes to be proactive about their health, resulting in a better health status and increased quality of life. Awareness of resources and access to care allows people with diabetes to obtain necessary services and help prevent the complications that diabetes can bring.

Our health care team includes our diabetic educator, who is a registered nurse, and our registered dietitian who work together to counsel patients on how to incorporate healthy eating, physical activity and medication management into their lives.

At Pioneer Memorial Hospital & Health Services, we provide education for those:

  • newly diagnosed with diabetes
  • starting on diabetes medication
  • beginning insulin therapy
  • dealing with uncontrolled diabetes
  • at high risk for complications of diabetes

Classes or individual sessions can be arranged to accommodate your needs. The Pioneer Memorial Hospital & Health Services Diabetes Education program has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for Quality Self-Management Education. The program is eligible for reimbursement by health insurance plans, Medicaid and Medicare.
