November is National Family Caregiver's Month

Your loved one’s care does not always take place in hospitals, nursing homes, doctor offices, or medical clinics. Most care actually occurs in the home – and that’s a good thing. People are healthier at home and health care costs are reduced. Family caregivers have the best interests of their loved ones at heart. But caregiving at home can take its toll and it certainly takes a lot of planning.

November is National Family Caregiver’s Month, a time to acknowledge the dedication and compassionate care that is given to many individuals who need assistance due to aging, chronic conditions, disabilities, disease, and other problems but still want to live at home. Caregiving in the United States and the National Alliance for Caregiving estimate the average number of hours a family member cares for their loved one is 20 hours per week. As much as 13% of caregivers provide over 40 hours of care a week.

Pioneer Memorial Hospital & Health Services understands the dedication required to care for a family member at home. We also know there are times when you are unavailable to provide that care for many reasons. During these times, we want you to know we are here to help. We offer our Swing Bed services at our Hospital to care for your loved ones while you are away. Call (605) 326-5161 for more information about what these services include or if you have any questions.

For those who continue to offer your time and funds to care for your family members at home, we thank you for all that you do and hope that you are recognized for your efforts. Remember that your family appreciates your determination to allow them to live at home.
