Michelle Paulson, Director of Social Services at Pioneer Memorial Hospital, has been selected by her peers at Pioneer Memorial Hospital & Health Services as November Employee of the Month.
Michelle joined the staff in January of 2009. Her nominator commented, “Michelle is very caring and compassionate with the residents, is always willing to help out other areas when people are on leave, is very knowledgeable in her area and is willing to share information with other employees as needed.”
Her supervisor, Georgia Pokorney, CEO, added, Michelle has done an excellent job of directing and coordinating the Social Services Department and the care and support provided to our residents, patients and families in LTC, at Pioneer Memorial Hospital, and for the clinic patients as requested. She is an outstanding resident advocate and goes out of her way to assist the residents and family members. She always focuses on what is best for the resident, and if problems arise, protects the resident and supports them in whatever way needed.”
Michelle’s individual job responsibilities are many and include: promoting Pioneer Memorial’s services and coordinating admissions, promoting patients psychosocial and emotional well-being, assisting residents and patients in making healthcare decisions, assisting them with financial and legal matters, providing and arranging for mental health services as well as discharge planning, and serving as an advocate for patients and residents rights.
She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from South Dakota State University in Brookings. She is a Social Worker, licensed in South Dakota, and also is a Certified Grant Writer and Qualified Activities Director.
Prior to joining Pioneer Memorial, Michelle was Chief Development Officer for Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons, and was responsible for coordinating their United Way campaigns, fundraising, special events and foundation programs in an area covering both Dakotas and part of Minnesota.
Michelle and her husband, Wayne, have two sons, Andrew (14) and Jonah (10) and live in Lennox, SD. She enjoys spending time with her family and attending all of her sons’ activities. She also likes photography and scrapbooking. As a member of St. Magdalen’s Catholic Church, Michelle also enjoys participating in the faith community.
