Breanne Nelsen, Director of Activities for Pioneer Memorial Hospital & Health Services has been named as the January Employee of the Month. Breanne started working with Pioneer Memorial May 2020.
In Breanne’s role, she is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing an activities program that assists in maintaining each resident’s highest functioning level dealing with physical, social, spiritual, and mental well-being aspects. She has a Qualified Activity Coordinator Certification from the South Dakota Health Care Association. She is a Certified Montessori Dementia Care Professional from the International Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners. Also, Breanne is a Certified Medication Aide and a Certified Nursing Aide, both from South Dakota Board of Nursing.
Breanne lives in rural Centerville with her husband, Justin, and 1 ½ year old daughter, Jaycee. She is originally from Sioux Falls. When she is not at work, she enjoys spending time with family and watching her toddler grow and learn new things. In her free time, she enjoys home renovations and following others home renovations (just for fun!) and decorating her home for the next upcoming holiday / season.
Those who nominated Breanne said that she is very friendly and is very good with the residents. She is a joy to work with and is very creative, as she has tried all kinds of different activities with the residents. Breanne does a great job of boosting morale in the facility!
When asked what she thought of the award Breanne stated: “To receive this reward is nice. I want to also recognize everyone who shares ideas with me or tags me in a Facebook post – thank you! Being a Director of Activities or in long-term care during COVID-19 is truly the most challenging time. Residents miss the social parties the most and I look forward to the day that we can gather for the biggest one yet!
