Pioneer Memorial supports Immunization Month in August

Pioneer Memorial Hospital & Health Services reminds the public that August is National Immunization Awareness Month. This annual observance highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines throughout life. You have the power to protect yourself and your family against serious diseases like whooping cough, cancers caused by HPV and pneumonia, through on-time vaccination. Vaccines are safe and effective at preventing serious diseases. Vaccine-preventable diseases are still a threat. According to Dr. Gabriel Johnson, D.O. from Viborg Medical Clinic, “According to the CDC, vaccination coverage among young children could be improved through higher participation by both children and providers in the Vaccines for Children program.” Pioneer Memorial encourages you talk to your medical provider to ensure you and your family are up to date on recommended vaccines. It is critical to ensure that routine vaccination is maintained during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to protect individuals and communities from vaccine-preventable diseases and outbreaks. COVID-19 has led some patients to put off routine health care for fear of entering clinics, meaning some kids and adults have fallen behind on their immunizations. Routine vaccination prevents illnesses that lead to additional medical visits, hospitalizations and further strain on the healthcare system. As children head back to school this fall, make sure vaccination is at the top of your checklist. Vaccination helps provide immunity before children are exposed to potentially life-threatening diseases. August is also a key time to make sure you are up to date on all the vaccines you need to stay healthy. To find out which vaccines you need and where you can get vaccinated, talk to one of our providers at Pioneer Memorial Hospital & Health Services by calling (605) 326-5201.
